Located in Birnie, south of Elgin, the Mannochmore distillery is one of the newest distilleries of Speyside. Its founding by John Haig & Co., in 1971. The name comes from the Mannoch hill, on the north side of the Livet valley that provides the water used in the distillation. Whiskey Mannochmore 25 years is an authentic Speyside single malt. Distilled in 1990, is aged using a combination of first fill bourbon casks then passes in European oak barrels, a process the same as that used for the Port Ellen whiskey. This has created a complex and balanced whiskey, with a frank and full-bodied character, a whiskey with lots of fresh fruit scents. Whiskey Mannochmore 25 years is then bottled at full 53.4% alcohol content in a limited edition of only 3954 bottles in the world.
Tasting notes: Round, light and elegant, perfect as an aperitif. The nose, the initial notes of undergrowth give way to hints that remind one made of autumn fruit, ripe, red apples berries. The taste is powerful almost spicy, with citrus notes that are softened in roasted cereal, chocolate orange and ginger. With water it softens revealing a hint of mint and fruit desserts. The finish is long and persistent with a delicate hint of rose water. We recommend the combined whiskey Mannochmore 25 years with a cigar as rich in sweetness like the Romeo & Julieta Cedro de luxw No. 3 limited edition home Habano.
